Just five short months from now – April 12-14, 2024 – Mentor Discover Inspire will be delivering the very first International Legacy Discovery (ILP). As an organization, we have talked about this for a while, and now we are going to actually deliver it. Over the next few weeks and months, you will hear a great deal about what you can do to support this event being successful.
Ed Aponte, Dog Soldiers Division – Atlantic Region, will be the Lead Group Exercise Leader for this event, leading the training. Ed has shared his thoughts about Legacy Discovery in the piece that follows. I know you will be inspired to learn more about the ILP after reading his words.

Why I am Inspired by the Legacy Discovery

In the journey of life, every man seeks meaning, purpose, and a legacy that resonates beyond the boundaries of time. The power of transforming lives becomes evident when men embark on a profound exploration of their purpose, connecting with their inner selves and the world around them. Legacy Discovery stands as a testament to this transformative journey, an event meticulously crafted to guide men toward unlocking the true potential of their legacy.
In 2009, I found myself at a crossroads, searching for a deeper understanding of myself and my purpose. It was then that Steve Crossley extended an invitation that would alter the course of my life: Legacy Discovery. Intrigued by the promise of not only acquiring new knowledge but also gaining clarity on my purpose, I embarked on a journey that would prove to be far more profound than I could have imagined.
Little did I know that Legacy Discovery would serve as a catalyst in reshaping the dynamics of my relationship with my father. The event delved deep into the core of familial connections, revealing the pivotal role my father played in shaping my legacy. Through introspection and shared experiences, Legacy Discovery became a bridge, connecting generations and fostering a newfound appreciation for the values that define a family’s heritage.
Beyond familial bonds, Legacy Discovery left an indelible mark on my role as a father, especially post-divorce. It became a crucible that solidified my commitment to my children, their mother, and the importance of embodying respect as a cornerstone of parenting. The event molded me into a respectful listener, ensuring that my presence in my children’s lives was not just evident but impactful.
Volunteering with Legacy Discovery has become a natural extension of my transformative journey. Witnessing the metamorphosis of men who have participated over the years has reinforced my belief in the profound impact of this event. Most notably, I have seen men evolve not only in their personal lives but also in their capacity to lead within the event. The growth is not just individual but extends to a collective leadership that has the potential to create a ripple effect, reaching far beyond the confines of the event itself.
Legacy Discovery is more than an event; it is a movement that has the power to shape the narrative of men’s lives, influencing the legacies they leave behind. As men discover their purpose, connect with their inner selves, and foster meaningful relationships, the world witnesses the birth of leaders who are committed to creating a better world.
