Question of the Month, May 2026

By

Each month LM poses a question for debate.
In honor of our The Women We Love theme, this time we ask:

Who is the woman you didn’t appreciate enough at the time?

We’re collecting brief reflections for next month’s issue.
A line or two is plenty—I read every reply.   – Dan

Last month we asked the thoroughly modern question:
Who Pays?
Is chivalry still the better part of valor?
Some of your responses are below.

“I will always pay—unless she wants to arm-wrestle with me. Forty years ago, on an April Fools day first date, I pretended to have lost my wallet.
She freaked out.”

– Matt, Arizona

“I usually pay. If she offers, I still usually pay. If she insists I’ll let her pay for half, but I tell her my father is rolling in his grave. I went on a date about a year ago, we met at a bar, had appetizers and a drink or two. She offered to split the check and I said okay. After the date she ghosted me. When I called she said, ‘I was done with you when you said split the check.'”
– Stanley, Florida

“Once, the waitress sked “together or split?” and I said split. But I could tell from the fact she never looked at the check that I still had to pay. With the places she chooses, and the amount of red wine… It always breaks the bank!”
– Adam, Alberta

“I always paid. It seemed like the best way to get laid at the end of the process. Thank God I’m happily married now.”
– Dan, Boston

“My mom was English and she drilled into me that the man pays with money. The lady pays with the pleasure of her company.”
– Martin, Alberta
