To the Editor,
In some men’s circles/teams, the oft-heard complaint is that the ‘old timers,’ lifers to the Men’s work, are stepping back; that they aren’t taking on their share of leadership roles on their teams or in their circles.
These are roles those men have likely already done numerous times during their years of elder training. My opinion is, if a man is tired, and done, yet is urged to lead because “someone has to do it,” that is missing the ancient societal norm of “respect your elders.”
Also, IMHO, the proper role required of an elder is to BE PRESENT, and to be available to share their stories.
