It is clear we have a penchant for chasing will-‘o-the-wisps.

But it often happens that,
as Indy shouted exultantly in Raiders of the Lost Ark, 
“they’re digging in the wrong place!”

This month, in deference to a certain well-known Fool’s Day,
we offer stories of men who, with the best of intentions, have
found themselves digging in the wrong place. Fool’s Gold may
be better than no gold at all… but, then again, it may not.
